dossier (about me)

Well I guess I'll update this finally and rattle off a few things about myself. Where to begin?

My name's Mike, I attend Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa. I've lived near Ames (a mere 8 miles away in a smaller town) my entire life, so living in Ames is no shocking, big change. I'm currently a junior in Management Information Systems, with a projected graduation date in 2005.

For the past 4.5 years I've worked at an Internet service provider as a tech support fella, but in the 4.5 years I've worked there, I've done a really large variety of things, from designing web pages for clients, to designing and writing out an eNewsletter to our customers. It's been a great job but I don't know why I'm writing about it.

So on to something new.

When MP3s really hit the mainstream back when I was in high school (actually a little before they were mainstream), I started to get into the whole MP3 deal, and that really got me into music. Since then I've purchased wayyyyy too many CDs and spent wayyyyy too much money on concerts. Regardless, I've made some really great friends thanks to music and I think I've introduced a number of friends to some new bands. Here's a quick list of some of my favorite bands that I can think of right now: The Beatles, Weezer, Radiohead, Thrice, The Space Twins, The Rentals, Nada Surf, Oasis, Foo Fighters, Murder By Death, Godspeed You Black Emperor, ...And You Will Know Us By The Trail of Dead, Jimmy Eat World, Sondre Lerche, Manplanet, The Get Up Kids, The Anniversary and tons and tons of other bands.

I play guitar. My first guitar was a borrowed Yamaha acoustic with a horribly warped neck and hard strings that I "borrowed" (I never asked) from a friend. I'm glad I learned on this, since it toughened up my fingers quickly. From there, I borrowed an Epiphone Les Paul Special II from a friend; an electric guitar. Finally, I purchased my own guitar, a Gibson SG. The borrowed guitars have since returned to their owners. More than anything, guitar playing is just a nice, relaxing hobby for me. I don't have aspirations of becoming a rock and roll god or anything like that. Sometime here I'm going to have to purchase an acoustic guitar. That Yamaha acoustic I mentioned earlier has since been converted into an electric acoustic thanks to myself and two of my roommates from last year. We did this all without the owner's permission. He never plays it (though he said some day he wants to learn some chords), and he's our friend, so he was cool with it.

I like to do web pages, both for myself and for work. I've been doing web pages for many years, and I'm completely self taught; no books, just Internet resources. If you'd be interested in a web page, get in touch with me. ;)

So I've pretty well rambled on about stuff I know you don't care about, and as a result, I think I'll wrap this up here.

My favorite pizzas are sausage, pepperoni, and supreme. Thin crust is good at times but you can't go wrong with deep dish or hand-tossed...

Cheers.           - Mike
